Last week my radio/cd player stopped working. As I mentioned in other post in dash unit powers up, everything seems to be responsive from radio controls on the unit and steering wheel, but there is no sound or noise from speakers at all. A few days ago air bag light came on. I found some posts about that issue, so I going to check connectors under driver seat over the weekend. And yesterday I noticed that my keyless entry system is not functioning properly. I cannot lock the doors with it. When I use remote it works. I can unlock doors with push button on the door, but cannot lock them.
It is very upsetting and annoying chain of failures in so short period of time. Any suggestions?????

Sounds like your GV is haunted.

But seriously, the dead audio is probably due to either a bad internal fuse in the amplifier or a bad speaker connection on the plug at the back of the radio. Perhaps a bad ground, but not likely, they are usually intermittent.

The other issues with the locks, and Air Bag light could be due to a weak battery. The Body Control Module (BCM) is very susceptible to voltage fluctuations and intermittent low voltage. If your battery is on its last legs it can produce all kinds of electronic gremlins that come and go and are almost impossible to diagnose. Have the battery load tested. I don't know if it has gotten colder recently in LI, but that will put an extra strain on the battery and these kind of things can appear.

Sorry, I have never opened up my radio, so I don't know how to access the fuse. I'm assuming there would be a separate internal fuse for the amplifier. Removing the radio and then its external metal case and having a look is probably the only way to find it. A car stereo repair shop familiar with Clarion products could possible advise what to do.

It may not be just the fuse, a failure somewhere in the amp could also be the issue, in which case it may not be economic to repair. Also, if one of the speaker wires has grounded it could also cause the amp to shut down to protect itself, although that is what the internal fuse is there for. If the fuse has blown, remember it blew for a reason. If there is a short somewhere, its still there, so the new fuse may blow again.

I fear you may need professional help to fix this.

Just update, maybe useful for others.
Keyless entry problem was caused by stupid thing. I found my spare remote under passanger seat, that is why I couldn't lock the car. Unlock function worked. Second AirBag light went off :D, after I cleaned up all connectors under driver seat. Last problem with radio is still unsolved. I put it apart, but there is no fuse in it at all.:(

Radio Blown Twice

The radio/CD that came with my 2006 Grand Vitara all of a sudden would power on, but no sound came out. The dealership replaced the stereo and that blew, and they finally found some damaged wires. But after that was fixed, a couple of weeks later, I turn on the radio and encounter the same problem. The dealer has had it for three days and says he's done every diag on it and hasn't found the problem. He says he may have to start replacing harnesses and/or components. Anyone have any ideas? Also, I have an extended waranty that should cover any electrical/mechanical that's not due to wear and tear, yet after the last repair, they said the waranty only covered a certain amount of hours. Can anyone help me. Do I have an incompetant mechanic? I have to use them because of the waranty.
